When connected to either of these devices, it showed in the device list as "Connected voice, music", and I never had any issues using it as an ordinary stereo headset with mic. HOWEVER, I had to reset my Airpods due to a charging problem, and after re-pairing them to the Surface, it only connects for music, and I can't get any apps to recognize the microphone in any way.
I used to be able to swap sources for both audio and microphone back and forth in any app without a problem. This thread is locked. Pro tip: You have to click on the sound icon lower left , and change the output device to Headset not headphones for them to work. I wonder if this phone-only-quality also happening if I connect it to Mac machine? It's frustrate me when sometimes the audio source changed from stereo to suddenly no audio output during the meeting. Then I need to change the system source to the Headset one instead of the stereo.

I've clicked on the link you sent and checked the privacy settings for the microphone. I have " allow apps to access your microphone " turned on and " allow desktop apps to access your microphone " on too which includes MS teams.
Under the sound settings I have the handsfree microphone option selected but there's no option to test my microphone see below. I've troubleshoot but it doesn't detect a problem.
I have the same issue with Airpod. My airpod pro was connected as music only and therefore cannot use as mic. I have been searching for answer on this but to no avail. I couldn't get them to work and have gave up trying.
I called MS and they even connected to my pc to try to get them to work. MS say it's Apple's fault for not releasing the driver but Apple say its MS fault they're not compatible. Just wish this was mentioned on the hundred of online reviews as I wouldn't have wasted money purchasing them. Fingers crossed it gets sorted in the future. I fought through this as well.
